Minor Threat were an American hardcore punk band formed in Washington, D.C. in 1980 and disbanded in 1983. The band was relatively short-lived, but had a strong influence on the hardcore punk music scene. Minor Threat's song "Straight Edge" became the eventual basis of the straight edge movement, while the band often professed their own "straight edge" ideals. Allmusic described Minor Threat's music as "iconic," and noted that their "groundbreaking" music "has held up better than most of their contemporaries."

Along with the fellow Washington, D.C. hardcore band Bad Brains, Minor Threat set the standard for many hardcore punk bands in the 1980s and 1990s. They produced short, off-beat, and often astonishingly fast songs, eventually with high production quality, which at the time was lacking in most punk rock. All of Minor Threat's records were released on Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson's own label, Dischord Records. The band's sound is commonly referred to as "modern hardcore", incorporating fast tempos, as well as being off-beat.

KING PRAWN - A Dominant View.

King Prawn were a prominent band of the UK ska punk scene during the 1990s and early 2000s.

King Prawn were viewed as one of the most innovative bands of this period, blending elements of punk, hardcore, metal, ska, dub, reggae, and hip hop into their music, which they dubbed wildstyle.

Since the London band's formation in 1993, they were subject to critical acclaim, having been nominated for the Best New British Band category at the Kerrang! Awards in 1998, and then again under the Spirit of Independence category in 2000.[citation needed] King Prawn toured regularly with broad range of bands, varying from hardcore to traditional and 2 Tone ska bands. King Prawn songs often contained political lyrics that, along with the band's blending of genres, led to comparisons with bands such as Rage Against the Machine.

King Prawn played their penultimate concert on December 20, 2003 at The Forum in Kentish Town which was recorded for their live DVD, their final gig followed the next night at the Pitz club in Milton Keynes and members have since moved on to other projects, such as drummer Nikolai forming Left Step Band an eclectic four piece Hip Hop groove machine, Babar Luck has his solo project and the Household Name Records-signed music collective Suicide Bid.

Random Hand - Metal-Punk-Ska Spectacular!

The new age of Ska/Punk comes to you in the form of Random Hand. Combining Ska with a Hardcore background Random Hand produce a more aggressive form of Ska than people in the music scene will be used to hearing. It is clear that Random Hand have taken influence from Rancid as the Punk side of Ska/Punk seems to be the more dominant of the two. There is some loyalty to the Ska trademarks by using lots of brass instruments with an almost reggae beat, followed up with heavy guitars, powerful drums and passionate vocals. The album can be summed up in the song ‘British’ with gang vocals, brass and aggression all coming into play to help create a winning formula for Random Hand. When listening to this furious fast paced album, you just want to jump around to music which can only be described as fantastically written and pumped full of passion. Every song has its individual charm but all feature passionate lyrics which lead to very catchy choruses, adding to the appeal of this album. Inhale/Exhale is Random Hand’s second full length release and it is sure to rocket them into the limelight. There is a tour with Reel Big Fish this month and it would be no surprise if Random Hand stole the show. This album doesn’t have any one particular ‘stand out’ track as the whole album is just phenomenal and it is impossible to find fault with it. Even if you are not a fan of Ska music, then have a listen to this album and it will definitely change your mind.
